So … you know you’ll ‘never forget’ how … yet you haven’t been doing much riding lately? If so, you’re not alone — Many people are staying close to home during these challenging times. The good news is: You can continue to casually explore in other ways as well.
My recent article, ‘Life Balance: Like Riding a Bike …’, has ‘simply connected’ globally with readers and riders. Wherever you are and wherever you go, this additional information to GO LIVE may help you and others to comfortably go on — and smooth your ongoing journey as well.
Notice how ‘GO’ & ‘LIVE’ are capitalized in the title above? These letters and words aptly summarize & point to critical, seldom-noticed, elemental steps to simply 1) positively proceed toward any intended destination — and also 2) ‘comfortably lead and support one’s life’. Sounds unlikely? Way too simple? Go on … explore, digest, and try this for yourself.
GO: Just as you pedal with an up & down flow — and breathe with ongoing ‘in & out (inhale/exhale)’ actions — we really do make our way in and through life (adjust & achieve — live & do more) with a connected yet often-invisible ‘dual-action’ flow. All who live actually do this, often unknowingly — proceeding along with this combined motion. We each and all successively Gather resources & Open the way with actions. Even your own heartbeat offers ‘living proof’ of this ‘receive/give’ life flow. Anyway, even if you’re unsure, the word ‘GO’ provides an easy, helpful, elemental way to convey, remember, and positively ‘do things’ in life. Pedal & ‘GO‘ — in many existing and evolving ways: G ather Resources; O pen the Way with Actions.
We rarely think about this as we ‘GO’ through life. We just ‘step on the pedal’ and routinely assume that a single ‘push’ is all it takes to go forward. We fail to realize how we also ‘pull’ — to mobilize & use existing resources to do this. It’s understandable that we fail to notice; as this so often seems ‘automatic’ or ‘just happens’. Yet the flow and mix of this ‘action combination’ is life-central and far from inconsequential. Even mere ‘information’ about this is a valuable ‘resource’: Just as you already notice and may be doing something about the gasoline consumption your car uses, you can do positive things in your life with ‘information’ about the resources you need and are using.
‘Resources’ in life include far more than hot air or gas: They are the natural supporting elements — the ‘what it takes’ with matching actions in life, to literally live & grow. Something this fundamental, ongoing, and life-central for us — is true of life around us as well. Notice how Simon, a character who was seeking simpler ways in life, observed this ‘connection in nature’ in this passage I wrote many years ago (from The Life Explorer’s Guide):
GO On … — As I wrote in my previous post, there really are distinct Types of Resources that individually & collectively provide Elemental Support in Life; yet knowing all about these elements & the mechanics of combining them is less critical than simply taking action with the support they provide. Much like hopping on one’s bike and proceeding to ride, we rarely think about all the ‘Resources’ we need and use (e.g. the bike, our motivation, pedaling & balancing skills, & more) as we casually GO through life. Yet we really GO nowhere without the instrumental resources that enable us to ‘Open the way with Actions’. We really can & do adjust and achieve from the word ‘GO’.
This is true for all that lives, grows, and makes adjustments in life. We often assume that certain scarce or difficult-to-add Resources (e.g. money, materials, people) can help us to get (add, adjust, achieve) what we want in life, yet available existing ongoing Resources enable us to literally survive & live. Many of these Resource Elements are freely available:
Fully LIVE … All Ways — LIVE 4 The Balance as You Continue 2 GO Through Life.
Just as you GO take action to pedal and maintain your balance on your bike, you can GO take action to adjust, achieve, and Improve — as you Work your way through life. And — what’s more — You can GO take balanced action to comfortably lead & support your life as well. And just as ‘balanced actions’ on your bike can carry you to places you want to go, ‘balanced ongoing actions in life’ can carry you to positive outcomes you want, as you GO. Notice how the ‘life actions’ shown above lead to the balanced ‘outcomes’ to ‘LIVE’ shown below:
As Simon would later discover in The Life Explorer’s Guide, each component to LIVE is comprised of ‘give/receive action pairs’ that positively lead/GO with a ‘dual-action’ flow. Like Gathering & Opening in all directions, each action pair has a distinctive, natural rhythm (GO here as well, for more Information about the matching rhythms, how our life domain is linked to our learning domains, & more). As shown below, together this 1) mirrors the changing, connected pace of our seasons — and 2) simply leads to balanced outcomes to ‘LIVE’ in diverse, connected ways:
Notice how the word ‘LIVE’ appears as the overall ‘outcome’ of ‘life in balance across the seasons’. Unlike the plants rooted in the earth, we can move about — supported by Resources on Earth — able to take action & GO in different ways across all seasons.
Just as a smooth ride on a bike depends on proper pressure in the tires, moving comfortably through life depends on the amount of pressure & support in your life. A tire gauge ‘read out’ provides an ‘indicator’ of the pressure in our bike tires. You can read out the word ‘LIVE’, and use this ‘indicator’ to assess & adjust the comfort & pressure in your life as well. Doing this involves more than ‘adding or reducing air’, yet we can easily 1) check to see how we’re feeling/how things are going, 2) notice if we ‘LIVE’ each day, and 3) adjust our actions and resources — to comfortably flow along & continue to progress. It’s your turn: GO on … LIVE your life as you prefer!
The ‘balance of our seasons’ provides our best outside example of ‘harmony in motion’:
As you’ve seen in this message and have experienced in life, this ‘harmony in motion’ extends across the seasons, with a changing, yet connected pace (rhythm & tempo). Just as we commonly seek a smooth ride on a bike, people often seek to explore, discover, live, grow, & flow through life in comfortable, rewarding ways. Much like feeling the presence of a comforting ‘melody’ in life, all of this parallels another avenue of ‘support in life’: Music. Thus, perhaps it’s only natural that I’ve ventured into ‘music’ as well — as music supportively delivers sound actions with positive outcomes when these elements — melody, harmony, rhythm, tempo — are aligned:
Like harmony accompanies a melody in music, major & minor support can happen for you in life. When 1) ‘positive life examples’ that span ‘our 4 ongoing seasons’ and ‘music in life’ align and 2) clear resources, steps, pathways, & outcomes appear and emerge … it becomes easier for us to comfortably lead & support our lives. As quickly revealed above (and more completely in The Life Explorer’s Guide that combines key life stories, life-engaging music and more) … Wherever you are, wherever you GO, you really can take clear positive actions to ‘LIVE WELL‘.

Remember how unsure you felt when you first tried to ride a bike … and experienced that strange, new ‘balance in motion’ sensation? — aware that the ‘forward flow’ could easily ‘take you places’, while also inexperienced and unaware of how to reliably steer, control your speed, and keep your balance?
Now, years later … even if you haven’t ridden a bike lately … you somehow ‘know you could still do it’. You may have taught others to ride — and possibly have even uttered “it’s just like riding a bike”, to reassure someone — that other ‘seemingly-complicated’ tasks, ventures & ‘balancing acts’ in life can be ‘easy to do’ once you simply ‘learn how’. Well, guess what? I’m now returning that ‘life-tested & proven’ reassurance to you as well. Like riding a bike, you really can simply learn how to ‘balance your life’ as you go — & you can literally do this anytime, across all seasons, for life (even in this frenetic, fast-changing world).
This sounds far too unlikely to be true. Both processes involve ‘navigation’, yet ‘balancing your life’ seems way more complicated than ‘riding a bike’. It’s no wonder we are so confused: The wide array of ‘life balance’ solutions — from ‘time management’ systems to ‘new age’ meanderings — expand the myth that ‘people & life are too complex’ (& rapidly becoming more so) for a simple life-anchored solution ‘to comfortably lead & support one’s life’ to possibly exist.
Meanwhile, fast-evolving ways are already being used — to instantly & easily connect and communicate globally — across diverse cultures and languages. How can we ‘connect across the planet’ yet feel it’s way too complicated to have reliable tools to ‘comfortably navigate for oneself’ in life? The ‘scope of our growing global connectedness’ may help to understand how a practical method to supportively connect, lead & balance one’s life has now emerged as well.
As with ‘riding a bike’ (or communicating in cyberspace), knowing all the details behind ‘balancing your life’ is unnecessary to get started (i.e. to simply do what it takes, begin to keep your balance, and make progress). Too much ‘helpful’ up front detail can actually discourage people from trying to do this for themselves. Notice this next example:
Years ago, as I taught leadership skills to corporate & public audiences, I was surprised by how easily I could lead others to discover & identify the types of ‘key supports’ or ‘resources’ it takes to consistently perform/do well at virtually any task. I’d simply 1) let them pick any skill-related topic (they’d often chose a hobby or sport), and then 2) have them openly respond to this displayed question: ‘What it takes to be really good at this is ___________________________________________ .’
They routinely would list several items on their own (i.e. ‘motivation’, ‘skills’, ‘materials’, ‘practice’); and they would add other key items (i.e.’information’, ‘time’, ‘space’, ‘feedback’, etc.) with my prompting and support. At the end of this simple exercise, they’d often feel excited & energized to have arrived at the ‘set of clear, life-encompassing elements to achieve at anything’; yet they also remained a bit unsure of how to use this to actually ‘go places’ in life. Like discovering the ‘individual elements’ on a chemistry chart, ‘doing something of value” with just this much knowledge’ remained an intriguing yet distant possibility.
The ‘elements’ do provide the critical foundation, yet there’s something practical & valuable in this lesson: Like riding that bike the first time, just knowing ‘there’s much to explore’ and ‘there are easier & quicker ways to get to places’ can mobilize & begin to take you there … to … & beyond ‘distant possibilities’ — without even knowing at the start all it takes (‘the elements’) to get there.
Remember when you ‘began learning’ on that bike, how quickly you wanted & soon did ‘go ride & explore on your own’? Without fully knowing, you ‘gathered what you needed (e.g. your bike & your senses)’ & ‘did what it took’ to get started, kept trying & continued on. Away you would go … with some trial & error. You began to explore this … & you started to learn…. Soon that initial fear of ‘being out-of-control’ gave way to a welcome sense of ‘harmony in motion’… that supported, stabilized & quickly freed you from any need for ‘training wheels’. ‘New & distant possibilities’ became fast-identified & reached by you.
As we first tried to ride that bike, we realized that a relatively smooth, open surface would make it easier to move along. With this much in place, we continued… to keep trying ….& we soon learned to make adjustments as we’d go … pedal, coast, brake … trying different speeds … in all directions. Before long, we began to choose where we’d go … making progress … & even discovering & learning how to enjoy the journey as we’d go.
If only a person could now do this in life as a whole, huh? Wouldn’t that be something? To actually get to places, learn new things, and comfortably ‘GO’ on? These days? In this crazy world, amidst this technological jungle? Guess what? You really can. For life. We each & all have this opportunity — complete with the supportive resources & easy-to-learn skills — to explore & learn in life, in ways that best individually fit for you as well — literally 4 life. Just ‘knowing that easier ways exist & are evolving’ can be enough to get you going …
Amidst my own share of falls & crashes … I’ve discovered — & have continued to learn & experience — how this ‘balancing act’ plays out … and takes a person farther … in-through-out life. Simply ‘doing this for oneself’ unveils how ‘whatever IT is that we positively want to do’ — whether currently visible or invisible — often really is ‘doable’ (& it can soon become easy-to-do, & as instantly-&-globally-shared as this message). Just choose what you want to do, & get started.
As with many others, the ‘music connection’ has helped me discover how ‘exploring what’s sound yet invisible’ can immediately be accessed, to produce clear, visible, positive outcomes. Check out this brief video I recorded to introduce the ‘music & life leadership’ connection:
Just as ‘trying to turn at a corner on your bike while recklessly speeding’ increases the chances for a crash, ‘trying to turn to balance in your life while rushing ahead unsettled’ increases the odds for disappointing outcomes. Make it your practice to ‘get & stay settled’ before & as you go (whether you’re trying to join, rejoin or continue with the race or the flow). Then GO with the flow at a comfortable pace — always attentive to getting & staying settled. Contrary to our childhood assumptions, you really can do this and still add more fun, focus & spirit to your life.
Like having a clear, smooth surface to learn to ride that bike, ‘a comfortable context’ is the critical foundation to support, explore, learn & do more in life. This extends well beyond beyond riding a bike, playing music, or navigating the Internet … to make it easier to lead & support one’s life as well. Additional support & simple connected steps can & do emerge when the matching context is set. If you’re in doubt about this, go out to nature — & sit patiently by a nearby stream … until you begin to notice how the flow simply seems to continually ‘happen’. ‘Nature’ provides the natural ‘life context’ — the setting — for the flow … to get established & settled … & progress & continue on … with resources & actions … flowing together … at a comfortable, rythmic pace. Chances are you will begin to notice more ‘life’ happening around you as well.
Outside weather conditions & more can change this with time, yet natural existing pathways generally remain in place even as seasonal resource & flow levels change. This is true ‘globally’ & for us individually in life as well. My little dog even seemed to sense the magic of the flow — as you may also notice in this brief video:
Fortunately for all (& despite the current & growing contrary evidence in our world), life itself still does offer a supportive ‘harmony in motion’ context — with clear, connected pathways — for each & all of us to live, flow & grow … with the ongoing (yet often-unrealized) potential to fully & supportively voice one’s spirit in life as we ‘GO LIVE IT’.
We all learn from examples & actions in life. And positive ones can carry us to more that is good. The progressive, positive, ongoing flow of ‘the balance of our 4 seasons’ offers our ‘context for life’ — and our best outside example of ‘harmony in motion’. Your own experience literally forms ‘your life flow’. Take action: Explore life … continue on, for ‘goodness’ sake.
Enjoy this ‘journey called life’. IT really is like riding a bike. Keep your balance … & simply expand your world of experience. Rediscover how distant dreams & remote possibilities can become real experiences for you in life as ‘well’. Just as you can dart, climb, cruise, & coast on your bike …, and you can play, work, receive, & rest in life, as you go…. You really can skip, march, waltz, & shuffle in this ongoing ‘dance called life’. This is less about ‘where you are’ than ‘what you do’, wherever you are. All can be done while keeping your balance — & the combined blend of all will help you enjoy the journey …
Discover more as you continue on… Attend to the ‘quality of the experience’ beyond merely ‘pedaling to reach a destination’. And if you find yourself ‘having to pedal too much’, ‘frequently on a difficult uphill climb’, ‘feeling lost or overwhelmed’, or ‘rarely getting a chance to rest’ — take a break, patiently stroll, wait until conditions change, or proceed in another direction. There really are several ways to proceed in life: Aim to ‘LIVE’: Laugh, Improve, Value Life, Energize with rest. Do this with a changing pace, using a unique blend of ‘compassion’ — patience & passion.
When resources & actions are life-anchored & life-connected, steps become a universal ladder … & barriers form an inviting, supportive bridge to evolving life pathways.
